I put HL 1.0.6 and CS 6.1 on our NT 4 server patched to SP 5 and now the HL Dedicated Server won't run. Works fine on W98 so anyone with suggestions? SP6 for NT isn't a real option as it is too unstable in our environment.

I run my CS server on an NT4sp5 machine. What are the specs for your hardware, and from your comment, I assume that it HAS run on this machine before. Correct?

Make sure that in your tcpip settings under advanced that you dont have security enabled. It will block all the ports and not allow it to run. Does it even start up ?? or does it error after starting. My CS 6.2a server is on NT4 SP5 and works great !! You mentioned environment what kind ?? Any proxy, firewall, etc.. ??

The server was an NT4 with SP 5. I had HL 1.0.1.13 on it with CS Beta 6. When I upgraded the HL to 1.0.1.6 then the HLDS stopped. Do I need to update the HLDS as well?

There was nothing special about the environment. It was standard NT4. I had put IIS 2.0 on. Would that have blocked ports for me?

I'm rebuilding the server and going to see what difference it makes with SP6a the latest HLDS4016 file.

i found out the problem. which is my config goes like this. remove the Netbeui from ur win98 lan machines. then go to ipx settings/properties. set the ethernet frame to the same as the server. im using Ethernet 802.3 and put auto or the same settings as the server 802.3. it should work by then. try it.

I set NT4 SP5 Server up on another machine and installed CS and ran HDCS Server and it runs beautifully. So what the problem is, I don't know. I've since dedicated the new machine's harddrive for our network games. One day I'll have a look at the previous server but as it is a mission critical machine I'm not too much in a hurry to mess too much with it.

Must say thanks to all of you guys with your suggestions. I'm going to use them on the older server and work out what the problem is one day soon.
