I'm running a server on my LAN, but I can't connect to it via the external IP address because it lags the server too much. How do I find the LAN IP address for the machine so that I can connect to it without using up bandwidth?
<EDIT>I tried using ipconfig in the command line, but it just gave me the same(public) IP address</EDIT>

if the box is multihomed you'll have todo 'ipconfig /all'
normally, just typing 'status' in the server will list the ip you should try to connect to it by
look for a 192.168.X.X or 10.X.X.X number

Issue the command DO told you to and then take a screenshot and post it here.
From that we should be able to tell you what your internal ip is.
Another option is to use HLSW to search for LAN games.

Start->Run-->cmd [Enter]
ipconfig /all > mycfg.txt
then post the content of above textfile here.

the 68.50.51.193 is the public IP address of the machine.
Also, I ran into a very odd problem when I used HLSW to search for LAN servers. In my custom serverlist on HLSW I have my server listed. I had a fine connection to it and everything was showing up fine. Then I clicked on find LAN servers, it did a search and found nothing. But when I went back to my custom serverlist my connection to my server completely timed out. I couldnt even connect to the server in CS. After about 30 min my connection to the server magically came back. Also when I search for LAN servers in the CS server browser it shows up, but it still connects to it through the external address.

The output states: you only have one Adapter.
OR you have bridged internal & external.
Either remove that bridge, or you are lost.
You are shure having 2 LAN Adapters in your machine?
IPCONFIG only shows a single one, therefore -> No chance.

I don't really understand what you mean by having 2 LAN adapters (sorry, I'm not really good with networking) I thought that as long as both computers are on the same LAN they can hook up to each other. Do you mean I have to have another connection directly between the two computers as well as the connection to the LAN for internet?

Sigh
What about asking a near friend, who can identify all
your equipment and plugs.
At the time now we know nothing about your networking.
