ello people!

ive used winxp to host cs before now, it was easy. but wen more than 4 people connected pings went from 30-4000- it doubled as ma dads pc, so wen he used it this happened!

So, i had a 450mhz amd duron laying about wiv a 40gb hdd and i thought i may as well put it to good use..

so here i am wiv my linux box beside this pc. i have hlds 3.1,1 or somthing its not the 4.11 its def the 3.1.1

it works fine- ON THE LAN!
ya see, we have a home network, but we dont use a router, we use a switch, which means ma dads pc is the one wiv the 600kbps cable connection and his pc is running winXP.

So my linux server is connected into the switch- which connects it to the net via dads pc. It is running Redhat9 and i run on runlevel 3 (init3).

wen i type in the console ip, it ses localhost. wen i type in port it ses 27015..

The Problem:

Now the server works fine inside the lan, and shows up on other pcs wiv the ip: 192.168.0.11:27015

but from outside its somthing like 80.7.216.61 (which is our Netip):1036 or somthing..

On my dads pc i have set the internet connection to let 192.168.0.11 wiv the ports 27015 through. This still isnt making the server show up outside lan as 80.7.216.61:27015!

and wots more, even wen people do connect wiv 80.7.216.61:1045 (or wotever) they have to retry like 4 times to get on.

Also the port seems to change every time my dads pc gets reset..
please help me!!!!

ive searched through many a forum and i cannot fnd an answer!

Sorry about the long and complicated explanation but im nackered and i cant be arsed to edit it!

You're using ICS from the looks of it? If that's the case, check the pinned topic out on ICS setup, and do the described on your dad's PC. Other problems may be firewalls on the hosting server etc, but follow our guide to the letter, and there shouldn't be any problems.

You need to search the pinned topics on how to open up the ports that provide a WON "heartbeat". That's your problem. However, ICS wouldn't hurt either.

lol- ive read those topics and thats what ive done on dads pc.

Description: HLDS
Ip or name: 192.168.0.11
external port: 27015
internal port: 27015

could anyone make sure this is rite?

also, could a dodgy network cable be causing people to have to retry 1 or 2 times to get in?
