"There are many Counter Strike:Source players out there asking a lot of questions about the recent release of CS:Source. Many of us think that it is a BETA release at best, and at worst, just a Half Life 2 marketing tool. The following editorial addresses our concerns and grievances."

What we've all been waiting for

Well ladies and gentlemen, it is now that time. Half-Life 2 is being released to the public in 2 hours. For the lucky few people that already have a copy, aka me, we can't play until 12 midnight PST as well.

Hopefully the excitement of the release of Half-Life 2 and the new Counter-Strike: Source will generate the site to its past community. We'll see.

Congrats Valve on finally releasing HL2.

CS: Source updated
Posted By jwm : Oct 27, 2004, 03:49

There is a little update available for the dedicated cs:s-server:

fixed server reliable buffer overflow errors
fixed BroadcastMessage:Reliable Broadcast overflow issue

Not fixed is the bug that the server crashes on older AMDs:

There appears to be a bug related to older AMD CPUs and the hand optimised AMD ASM code we have (under linux), it is on the TODO list.

- Alfred

If your server crashes just add -binary ./srcds_i486 to your commandline.

SourceMod

SourceMod is a new server mod for Source servers, think of is as the equivalent to AMX Mod.

The SourceMod Site claims that it will be possible to be scripted in any language which brings some exciting prospects to the source engine, and perhaps a few more people writing plugins?

Although development hasn't started on SourceMod yet (there's no HL2:SDK), it certainly looks promising, and something to look out for when it arrives :)

Half-Life2, CS:Source, and HL: Source have been submitted to Vivendi for approval!

It was reported just under two weeks ago that Valve were indeed aiming for a September 15th date for submitting the release candidate to Vivendi and today the man himself, Gabe Newell, has confirmed:

Quote:

"Yes, the RC went to VU yesterday."

Naturally people are bound to be sceptic of this forum post, especially considering the incident with the fake gold announcment recently; however I have personally confirmed it with Gabe and so have a few other people too. From here on I'd like to urge everybody not to contact Gabe for anymore confirmations. There's only so many times in one day you can reply "yes" to an e-mail!

You can find the original forum post here on HL2Fallout.

Also: Its also been confirmed with Gabe Newell that the Counter-Strike: Source and Half-Life: Source release candidates have also been sent to Vivendi.

In the light that we haven't had an update to the website template in a while, we're looking to re-design the site again from scratch for the new year. We're looking for someone who is very good with concept art, and in 3dMAX with CS Models - so we can do some model poses for the new template.

If you're experienced in concept art and model art, and would like to have your work as part of the official counter-server website template, then contact myself and ronin here

Community CS Servers

A suggestion has been made by the team that we bring back the Counter-Server community game servers, which up until last year had been running 24/7. I think it's a great idea, and it would be nice to see some of the old characters back online, being submitted to some severe punishment.

At the moment, there's no community servers online - and so in an effort to revive the servers, we are offering GSP's the opportunity to become a supporter of Counter-Server - and in return, we are offering Community Sponsor status on the site and forums.

If you're interested, you can send your initial queries to myself, Ronin and Milenko here
